MULTIMODAL TECHNOLOGIES IN TEACHING ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES TO FIRST-YEAR DENTISTRY STUDENTS
Authors/Creators
Description
This article examines the role of multimodal technologies in teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to first-year dentistry students at Profi University, Navoi. It argues that multimodal pedagogy—combining textual, auditory, visual, and interactive resources—significantly enhances professional language acquisition. The study integrates specialized dentistry coursebooks (Career Paths: Dentistry, Evans, Dooley & Caldwell, 2014–2016), structured grammar instruction, and synchronous Telegram-based speaking practice. Findings reveal that students who actively engaged in multimodal tasks and Telegram discussions achieved higher levels of fluency, accuracy, and confidence compared to less active participants. The article situates these results within broader ESP scholarship and Uzbekistan’s educational transformation agenda, offering recommendations for sustainable integration of multimodal technologies in higher education.
