Achyra coelatalis (Walker, 1859d)

COMMON NAME(S): Grass moth or Crambid Snout Moth.

SYNONYM(S): Anerastia aurantiaca Rothschild, 1921b; Loxostege fredi Amsel, 1961; Sceliodes nodiferalis Gaede, 1917c; Scopula massalis Walker, 1859c.

IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).

DISTRIBUTION: Afghanistan, Australia, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Iran, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Oman, Réunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Togo, Tanzania, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Lusaka, in Lusaka Province.

LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): Larval foodplants are various grasses (in the grass Family, Poaceae), including cereal grasses i.e. Sorghum sp., Oryza sativa L. [Asian rice, but most commonly referred to in English as rice], Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke; [Pearl millet] and Zea mays L. [cereal grain crop or cereal grass commonly called maize].
