Spiral Convergence: From General Relativity to the Fine Structure Constant

There are two open mysteries in fundamental physics. Why does the cosmic energy budget divide into 68% dark energy, 26% dark matter, and 5% baryonic matter — numbers measured but never derived? And why does the fine structure constant α ≈ 1/137.036, governing all electromagnetic coupling, have this particular value — measured to 0.059 ppb but never explained?

This paper proposes they are not two mysteries. They are the macro and micro expressions of the same geometric attractor.

We present a dynamical model in which four coupled cosmic energy sectors spiral toward a terminal attractor governed by the golden ratio φ. The damping ratio ζ = φ⁻¹ is not chosen — it is the unique value at which the oscillator achieves algebraic closure, a direct consequence of φ's defining equation. The attractor partitions the energy budget as φ⁻¹ / φ⁻³ / φ⁻⁵ / φ⁻⁶ (61.8% / 23.6% / 9.0% / 5.6%). Current ΛCDM values are mid-transition, not equilibrium.

The forward derivation path runs: General Relativity → 3 degrees of freedom → φ-damped spiral → ζ(3) friction → α. The Apéry constant ζ(3) enters not as numerical coincidence but through Lewin's polylogarithm identity, which algebraically entangles φ and ζ(3) on a three-dimensional constraint surface. The resulting formula, α⁻¹ = 360/φ² − 2/φ³ + corrections, matches measurement to 0.008 ppm with zero fitted parameters. Every term has a structural origin.

The same spiral that produces α also dissolves three major cosmological tensions. The BBN baryonic discrepancy becomes convergence upward from 4.9% toward 5.6%. DESI's phantom crossing becomes spiral overshoot, not exotic dark energy. The Hubble tension becomes a signature of mid-transition dynamics, not a crisis. The 120-order-of-magnitude vacuum catastrophe — the worst prediction in physics — dissolves as the geometric ratio between the inward (α) and outward (Λ) scales of a single self-referential process.

One geometry, two directions: the inward spiral governs electromagnetic coupling; the outward spiral governs cosmic expansion. The spiral becomes a circle. Light becomes matter. α⁻¹ is the winding number of this closure.

Seventeen falsifiable predictions with explicit kill conditions are stated. The formula contains no fitted parameters. The framework derives rather than fits. It connects domains — general relativity, quantum coupling, cosmological evolution, information geometry — that have no business being connected unless the connection is real.
