Description

Catalogues of simulated microlensing events generated in the work "Astrometric microlensing probes of the isolated neutron star population with Roman".

This resource contains:

1. Events detectable in our simulated GBTDS survey:

  • gbtds_ns_kick_{v}.csv (where v = (150, 250, 350, 450) - contains simulated events with neutron star (NS) lenses in the simulation where NS are given the mean natal kick v [km/s].
All columns are as returned in the PopSyCLE output ('_refined_events.fits' file), except the last column 'weight' which contains a correction for spatial distribution of kicked remnants in the present-day Galaxy (described in Section 4.1 of the paper).
  • gbtds_bh_kick_100.csv - contains simulated events with black hole lenses, which are the same for each simulation (with a mean natal kick of 350 km/s). All columns as for NS.
  • gbtds_star_wd.csv - contains simulated events with stellar and white dwarf lenses, which are the same for each simulation. As no re-weighing is applied, all columns are as in PopSyCLE output.

2. All events:

  • all_events.csv - contains all simulated events regardless of their detectability. All columns except the last four are as returned in the PopSyCLE output.
The additional columns 'mag_det', 'phot_det', and 'ast_det' are flags for source passing the maximum magnitude detectability cut, photometric microlensing signal detectability, and astrometric microlensing signal detectability, respectively. These flags are set to 0 if the event does not pass the cut and 1 if it passes the cut. Additionally, as astrometric detectability was expensive to compute, it was only checked for events already passing the other two cuts; 'ast_det' is set to -1 if it was not checked.
The additional column 'ns_kick' is set to the mean kick velocity for NS lenses to indicate belonging to either of the 4 simulations, and is set to -1 for all lenses that are not NS.
This dataset is recommended if users choose to apply their own detectability cuts.
