Description
This study explores how the emotional and social aspects of artificial intelligence (AI) can be measured and evaluated. As interest in developing AI systems with emotional and social competencies has grown, the authors aim to examine both the feasibility of measuring these traits and the insights such assessments can provide.
The researchers analysed several widely used AI chatbots and assessed their emotional and social intelligence using a non-standardised test questionnaire. Rather than focusing solely on measurement tools, the study’s findings highlight the current developmental stage of AI and its capacity to generate emotional and social insights. The results suggest that AI demonstrates certain forms of affective and interpersonal intelligence, which the authors link to the broader concept of collective (global) emotional intelligence.
The article discusses potential applications of these findings across multiple fields, including improving communication between humans and machines, enhancing interpersonal communication among humans, and facilitating interaction between machines. Although the study acknowledges limitations—such as the use of free chatbot versions and a non-standardised instrument—it contributes valuable theoretical and practical insights. Overall, the research advances understanding in artificial intelligence, information and communication technologies, and social sciences, including management and human resources, while outlining directions for future research.
