Upanishadic Education in the Contemporary Era: A Philosophical Reappraisal and Pedagogical Imperative

This paper explores the Upanishads and their relevance in the era of technological, ethical, and psychological challenges occurring in modern education system. Based on primary Upanishadic texts, and recent empirical and policy literature, the study examines philosophical concepts with contemporary pedagogy. It is found that Upanishadic education characterized by inquiry, ethical formation, contemplative practice, and the guru-śiṣya relationship that offers a coherent framework for holistic education. The paper co relates key Upanishadic principles with modern constructs such as social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), and presents practical implications for curriculum, teacher development, and assessment process.
