Description
Press releases are essential instruments in government communication, serving as primary channels for disseminating public information and maintaining institutional credibility. However, many government communication officers lack sufficient training in writing professional press releases. This study examines the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based press release training in improving writing competence among Indonesian government officers. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design was employed, involving 30 officers from the Department of Communication and Information of Pesawaran Regency. Data were collected using a structured knowledge test that measured press release fundamentals, including structure (5W+1H), headline formulation, quotation usage, and ethical standards. Descriptive and comparative analyses were conducted to evaluate changes in the participants’ performance. The results indicate a substantial improvement in post-test scores (M = 92.6) compared to pre-test scores (M = 78.7), with a mean gain of 13.9 points and reduced variability. These findings suggest that AI-based training significantly enhances press release writing competence and contributes to more standardized governmental communication practices. This study provides empirical evidence of the role of AI as an assistive technology in public sector communication and offers insights into capacity-building strategies amid digital transformation.
