Main Text
When acceleration is questioned,
the inevitable follow-up is:
“So what should we do now?”
The temptation is to propose solutions.
Policies. Roadmaps. Regulations.
But premature prescriptions
often miss the leverage points.
In systems shaped like this,
change rarely begins at the center.
It begins at the edges.
Three surfaces matter most:
Price.
When AI feels free,
judgment weakens.
Introducing cost—monetary, temporal, or cognitive—
does not restrict access.
It restores choice.
Institutions.
Organizations adopt AI
to reduce friction and risk.
But when responsibility dissolves into systems,
institutions become shields instead of stewards.
Governance must reattach names to decisions.
Education.
Not skills training.
Orientation training.
Teaching people where automation helps—
and where it must stop.
These surfaces interact.
Pricing without education feels punitive.
Education without pricing feels abstract.
Institutions without either drift.
The question is not
which comes first universally.
It is which comes first locally.
What matters
is that at least one surface
reintroduces friction.
Because friction is not failure.
Friction is how systems signal
that something important is happening.
Disclaimer
This section does not recommend specific policy instruments.
It outlines structural leverage points—price, institutions, and education—
as conceptual entry points for rebalancing human–AI relationships.
