COMMUNITY RADIO AND SUSTENANCE OF MARITAL PEACE IN EDO STATE

Description
This study was carried out to investigate the relevance of community radio in sustaining marital peace in Edo
State. The study was anchored on Family System Theory. Survey research design was adopted in this study.
It has a population of 4,777,000 residents of Edo State drawn from the eighteen Local Government Areas of
the State. From the population, a sample size of 385 gotten via Online Australian Calculator was adopted.
The instrument used for data collection was structured questionnaire and data collected were presented
and analyzed using descriptive data analysis method. Findings of this study revealed that: majority of the
residents of Edo State were highly aware of the use of community radio in sustaining marital peace in the
State, most of respondents agreed that community radio usually broadcasted family/marital peace oriented
programmes and campaigns and the extent to which community radio contributed in sustaining marital
peace is still low in Edo State. The study recommended that community radio stations in Edo State should
involve digital and social media platforms in disseminating information on sustainable marriage peace in
the State. Also, marriage counselors, church leaders and peace communication experts should partner with
community radio on communicating marital peace in Edo State.
