Description

Traminda neptunaria (Guenée, 1857b)

COMMON NAME(S): Geometer moth.

SYNONYM(S): Timandra viridipennaria Guenée, 1857b.

IUCN STATUS: Not Evaluated (NE).

DISTRIBUTION: Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Nigeria, Oman, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

LOCALITY IN ZAMBIA: Mid Luangwa valley, in Eastern Province; Kabwe, in Central Province.

LARVAL HOSTPLANT(S): The larval foodplant in Kenya is said to be Vachellia tortilis (Forssk.) Galasso & Banfi (Fabaceae). Another, but unnamed Acacia species and Dichrostachys cinerea (L.) Wight & Arn. also in Fabaceae are host plants of the taxon elsewhere in Africa. No specific host plants have been reported for the taxon in Zambia. However, since these plants are present in Zambia, most likely the species also feeds on them in the country. The African Moths (2019) webpage lists three Fabaceae species namely, Vachellia tortilis (Forssk.) Galasso & Banfi, Vachellia karroo (Hayne) Banfi & Galasso and Ditrostachys cinerea (L.) Wight & Arn as larval foodplants of the taxon.
