Set-Up the ORCID Auto-Update
Description
This presentation provides a practical introduction to ORCID Auto-Update, a free DataCite service that automatically connects researchers’ ORCID records with works registered using DataCite DOIs. It explains how ORCID and DataCite work together to improve attribution, discoverability, and trust in the research ecosystem, and shows how an ORCID iD included in DOI metadata enables automated updates. The session walks through the simple setup process, outlines the benefits of verified and continuously updated ORCID records, and highlights common requirements and limitations, such as the role of the Creator metadata field. Delivered as part of Love Data Week 2026, the talk is aimed at researchers, librarians, and research support staff who want to reduce manual curation while increasing the visibility and impact of their research outputs.
