Description

Injection Molding Simulations

This dataset contains 624 VTU files of geometries from the ABC dataset [1] with results of an injection molding simulation. 

Each geometry features a single, randomly chosen injection location at the surface and simulations have been performed with Autodesk Moldflow 2023 assuming Celanese Factor PP GF 30 as material. The results contain several nodal  and elemental fields:

Nodal: 

  • Deflection,_all_effects[X_Component/Y_Component/Z_Component/Deflection]: a vector field containing the deflection after cooling with warpage
  • Fiber_orientation_tensor_on_nodes_(3D): a symmetric tensor field for the second order fiber orientation tensor
  • Fill_time: a scalar field for the fill time
  • Freeze_time: a scalar field for the time at which the polymer reaches solidifcation temperature
  • Pressure_Block*_Time:*s: Pressure at each fill time step and cooling time step
  • Temperature_(3D)_Block*_Time:*s: Temeprature ateach fill time step and cooling time step
  • Velocity_(3D)_Block*_Time:*s: Temeprature ateach fill time step and cooling time step
  • Volumetric_shrinkage_(3D)_Block*_Time:*s: Volumetric shrinkage at each cooling time step

Elemental: 

  • In-cavity_residual_stress_tensor: a symmetric tensor field describing the residual stresses
  • Poisson's_ratio_(v12)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field representing Poisson's ratio v12
  • Poisson's_ratio_(v13)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field representing Poisson's ratio v13
  • Poisson's_ratio_(v23)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field representing Poisson's ratio v23
  • Shear_modulus_(G12)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for shear modulus G12
  • Shear_modulus_(G13)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for shear modulus G13
  • Shear_modulus_(G23)_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for shear modulus G23
  • Tensile_modulus_in_first_principal_direction_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for Young’s modulus in principal direction 1
  • Tensile_modulus_in_second_principal_direction_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for Young’s modulus in principal direction 2
  • Tensile_modulus_in_third_principal_direction_(3D_fiber): a scalar field for Young’s modulus in principal direction 3

In addition, there are accompaniying LOG files of the Moldflow run as well as YML files to store inlet coordinates and inlet normals.
