IMACLIM-R World - IMpact Assessment of CLIMate policies

Description

IMACLIM-R is a multi-sectoral, macroeconomic process-based Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) that simulates the co-evolution of economic systems, energy systems, and technological change within a consistent framework. Unlike aggregated IAMs, IMACLIM-R explicitly represents the interplay between macroeconomic dynamics and sector-specific constraints through a hard coupling of a general equilibrium core—based on Leontief production functions and operating under market imperfections—and bottom-up techno-economic sectoral modules. The model's recursive-dynamic resolution ensures that macroeconomic trajectories are shaped by energy and technological constraints, reflecting the physical and economic limits of substitution in production and consumption patterns. This approach contrasts with traditional CGE models by embedding input-output representations where technical coefficients evolve only through the recursive dynamics and sectoral modules, rather than assuming perfect substitutability or market clearing. IMACLIM-R thus captures how energy systems and technological rigidities fundamentally influence macroeconomic outcomes, offering a robust framework for exploring pathways aligned with climate and sustainability goals.
