Science Journalism Residency Program Framework
Description
This document presents a framework for a Journalist-in-Residence Program to be hosted within scientific institutions, developed as part of the Science and Media Working Group of FAST India’s SciComm ThinkLabs initiative. Drawing on the group’s findings and recommendations, as well as a short study on scientist–media interactions in India, the framework outlines how institutions can host journalists for immersive engagements that help bridge gaps in understanding, expectations, and communication cultures. The program is designed to benefit both scientists and journalists by enabling deeper insight into each other’s work, improving accuracy and trust in reporting, and strengthening long-term relationships between research and the media ecosystem.
