AN AYURVEDIC REVIEW ON VIRECHANA KALPA, ANUPANA AND ADMINISTRATION CONSIDERATIONS
Authors/Creators
Description
Virechana is one of the five main Ayurvedic detoxification therapies that focus on removing excess Dosha and cleansing the body of waste through controlled vomiting. The effectiveness and safety of Virechana depend greatly on the correct choice of Anupana (vehicle) used for drug administration purpose. In general, lukewarm water is the most widely used Anupana, but other options such as milk, Ghrita, herbal decoctions, meat soup, grape juice and saline mixtures may be selected depending on requirements. Timing and dosage adjustments, as well as preparation methods and patient monitoring, are all critical to achieving the best possible therapeutic results of Virechana. Anupana enhances Virechana effects by allowing a more natural form of cleansing without the use of forceful purging. In classical texts of Ayurveda, there are a large number of different Virechana drugs that are classified according to the different sources of the drugs and their actions.
