Description

This study examines digital literacy skills and the perceived usefulness of electronic resources by undergraduate students of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopts multi-stage sampling technique. One hundred and twenty (120) copies of questionnaire were distributed for administration, but only ninety-five (95) copies of the questionnaire were returned, representing 79.2%, and were found useful for this study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) which comprises percentage and means were used to analyse the returned questionnaire. The data were analysed using frequency tables and simple percentages. The study reveals that electronic resources such as CD-ROM, resources on the Internet such as e-journals, OPAC, E-research reports, online databases, and e-books, as well as other computer-based electronic network are available in the Olusegun Oke Library for research. Furthermore, the majority of the respondents utilised the available electronic resources in the library because of their digital literacy skills. However, with all the benefits inherent in the use of electronic resources library, there are still a lot of problems militating against digital literacy skills and the use of E-resources in the library, such as inadequate funding and poor infrastructure (ICT tools), poor orientation and awareness to the use of E-resources, lack of knowledge to use E-resources, and lack of know-how to use ICT tools. In order to achieve effective and efficient digital literacy and the use of the E-resources for library services, adequate attention must be given to the strategies and the provision of an online information literacy platform.
