Description

Joliso, also known as the East African Journal of Literature and Society, was edited by Chris L. Wanjala and published between 1973 and 1974 by the East African Literature Bureau. Although the journal featured poetry and short stories, its main focus was on criticism. It also contained papers dealing with history, politics, culture, anthropology and economics.

The set lists the papers published in the pages of each issue, along with bio-bibliographical information about their authors, as found within the pages of the magazines. The label "genre" is based on the terms used in the table of contents, with additional precisions (i.e. review) based on my reading of the texts.

The dataset was compiled from various archives (University of Dar es Salaam library, University of Nairobi Library, Bibliothèque Nationale de France).
