The professional standard for secondary school teachers is a set of requirements aimed at enhancing the quality of education, continuously developing teachers' professional competencies and ensuring the effectiveness of the educational process. This article analytically examines the methodological foundations of the professional standard for general secondary education teachers, the sections and areas included in the standard, as well as the system of criteria for professional activities. Moreover, the mechanisms by which the professional standard influences students' educational outcomes and its practical significance are elucidated. The indicators defined for certain areas of the standard are interpreted based on the author's explanations, and suggestions and recommendations for their effective application in educational practice are presented.
