The Piano Students of Theodor Leschetizky (1830-1915) between 1905 and 1913
Description
This dataset contains the names of all of Theodore Leschetizky's known students from the period 1905 until 1913. The names of the students from before that time have already been published in an alphabetized list in 1926, but that list only contains the names of students up until around 1908, and misses out a fair few names from the later years. The current database is based on materials in the Archive of the Leschetizky Association in New York. Because the materials depend on Leschetizky’s own book keeping, there are doubtless some errors when it comes to the spelling of students’ names, their titles, or the time of their arrival. The list for the year 1907 is notably missing, but there are lists for both 1908 and 1908-1909.
The dataset was created by Marten Noorduin during the DFG-funded project ’You play exactly as if you came from America.’ Transatlantic Relations and Anti-American Bias in the Musical Life of the German Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy 1880-1915, hosted by the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, Germany, and led by Christiane Tewinkel.
