Description
I am pleased to publish my new article entitled “Interwoven Realities: Integration and Identity in Multicultural Settings.”
This study explores the interconnected concepts of belonging, community, and integration through in-depth life story interviews with refugees in Finland. Using the Listening Guide (LG) methodological approach, the research highlights how refugees actively construct identity and meaning within specific social, temporal, and spatial contexts.
The findings reveal key challenges to integration, including language barriers, limited recognition of prior qualifications, and restricted access to social and professional networks. At the same time, the article underscores the central role of language, education, and supportive social systems in fostering social cohesion, participation, and well-being.
By foregrounding refugees’ narratives, this work contributes nuanced insights into the lived experience of integration in multicultural societies and offers important implications for policy, education, and community-based support systems.
