Description
FIGURE 2. Two representatives of Kalanchoe ser. Mpivady. Kalanchoe orgyalis (A and B) and K. ×flaurantia (C and D). A. Especially when the spathulate leaves of K. orgyalis are young the upper surfaces of the leaves are covered in a very fine, golden brown to coppercoloured tomentum. B. In K. orgyalis the corolla tube and corolla lobes are virtually uniformly bright lemon yellow. The short, stubby sepals are bright green. C. The tomentum on the leaves of K. ×flaurantia is often less dense than in its two parents, K. bracteata and K. orgyalis. The tomentum also rubs off more easily. D. In K. ×flaurantia flower colour is orangey, i.e., it is intermediate between that of its two parents, K. bracteata and K. orgyalis. All photographs: Gideon F. Smith.
