Dataset on needlestick and sharps injuries in hospitals

Description

This dataset contains anonymized occupational injury records from 371 needlestick and sharps injuries (NSSIs) reported at a university hospital between 2016 and 2024. Each incident is represented as a binary-encoded observation in a 371 × 161 data matrix covering four domains: personal/demographic characteristics (e.g., age group, profession, education), temporal and spatial attributes (e.g., weekday, time of day, hospital unit), accident characteristics (e.g., device type, injured body part), and process stages (e.g., preparation, during procedure, post-procedure, waste disposal). The dataset was designed to support multifactorial analysis of NSSI determinants and was used in a study integrating Tripod Lite causal analysis with FP-Growth association rule mining to identify organizational, procedural, temporal, and human risk patterns. All records were de-identified prior to sharing, and data collection was approved by the Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Non-Interventional Clinical Research Ethics Committee (Protocol: 2024.282.10.10, Date: October 30, 2024). Potential applications include occupational safety research, development of data-driven prevention strategies, and methodological studies on pattern mining in healthcare safety data.
