Intorno all'ontologia POGO (Philology-Oriented Graphematics Ontology): classificazione dei grafemi e modellizzazione delle abbreviazioni
Description
The article presents two aspects of the POGO ontology (Philology-Oriented Graphematics Ontology), namely the classification of graphemes in alphabetic writing systems and the modeling of medieval abbreviations. POGO formalizes the author’s reflections on digital graphematics — that is, on the representation of the signs of a writing system in a computational environment — within the framework of a broader methodological work on the digital scholarly editing of Latin texts transmitted by premodern manuscript witnesses. The article refers to version 1 of POGO (release POGO v1.0.1, https://github.com/vedph/graphematics/releases/tag/v1.0.1) and, in its conclusion, outlines some directions for future work toward a possible evolution to a version 2 — or an integration of POGO with other ontologies — that would revisit certain issues, especially those concerning the concept of the alphabetic letter (or 'alphabeme') and relations of allography.

L'articolo presenta due aspetti dell'ontologia POGO (Philology-Oriented Graphematics Ontology), e specificamente la classificazione dei grafemi nei sistemi grafici alfabetici e la modellizzazione delle abbreviazioni medievali. POGO formalizza la riflessione dell'autore sulla grafematica digitale, ovvero sulla rappresentazione dei segni di un sistema grafico in ambiente computazionale, nel quadro di un lavoro metodologico più generale sull'edizione scientifica digitale dei testi latini su testimoni manoscritti pre-moderni. L'articolo fa riferimento alla versione 1 di POGO (release POGO v1.0.1, https://github.com/vedph/graphematics/releases/tag/v1.0.1), e in conclusione accenna a qualche direzione di lavoro per una possibile evoluzione verso una versione 2 — o un'integrazione di POGO con altre ontologie — che riveda alcune questioni, soprattutto riguardanti il concetto di lettera alfabetica (o 'alfabema') e i rapporti di allografia.
