The present edition offers, for the first time, a English translation of Sven Lagerbring’s treatise Bref till Cancellie-Rådet och Riddaren, Herr Joh. Ihre om Swenska och Turkiska Språkens likhet (1764). The text belongs to the early contributions of the European Enlightenment to comparative linguistic and historical research and documents the debate on possible Turkish–Asian origins and linguistic connections of the peoples of Northern and Western Europe.
