Reframing Knowledge Sovereignty in the Arab World (Arabic Talk)
Authors/Creators
Description
This talk was delivered in Arabic in Oman as part of a two-day event titled “Arab Women Researchers Towards the Future: Inspiring Experiences and Insightful Visions”, held under the theme “Exchanging Expertise is Our Path to Excellence”.
The forum was organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in cooperation with the Department of Science and Scientific Research at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the University of Buraimi.
A number of Arab women researchers from various scientific and academic fields took part, along with heads and representatives of Arab, regional, and international organisations and unions. The talk, “Re-articulating Knowledge Sovereignty in the Arab World”, focused on adopting the open science movement. The goal of open science (in Arab region) is not openness itself, but the redistribution of power in knowledge production, challenging extractive systems that enrich the Global North at the expense of the Global South.
