Rhabdocnemis maculatus form carinicollis Voss 1937: 273.
Rhabdocnemis eucnemis Heller 1899: 33.
Sri Lankan records. Heller (1901: 339 —Kandy, Matala, Negombo, Weligama); Csiki (1936); Karunaratne et al. (2011).
Distribution. China (Yunnan), Java, Sumatra, Sri Lanka, Sulawesi.
Biological notes. The palm weevil, an important pest of ornamental palms, was carried out at Tropiflora Ornamental Palm Nurseries in Sri Lanka (Karunaratne et al. 2011).
Remarks. The members of Genus Rhabdoscelus have 13 recognized species (International Weevil Community Website, n.d.) that occur from the Pacific Islands westward to Japan, eastern Asia, Indonesia, and Australia. This species is sometimes believed to be synonymised with Rhabdoscelus obscurus, but there are records indicating a different biology and morphology. The synonymy with R. obscurus is actually with a junior homonym, R. maculatus Matsumura (International Weevil Community Website, n.d.).
