Engelli Bireylerin Turizm Faaliyetlerinde Karşılaştığı Sorunlar: Görünmeyen Engeller, Görülmeyen İhtiyaçlar

Bu çalışma, farklı engel türlerine sahip bireylerin turizm deneyimlerini nitel bir perspektifle inceleyerek erişilebilir turizmin mevcut durumunu değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada görme, işitme ve bedensel engelli bireylerle gerçekleştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler tematik analiz yöntemiyle çözümlenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında turizm süreçlerinde karşılaşılan fiziksel, iletişimsel ve organizasyonel engeller analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, erişilebilirlik zincirinin birçok halkasında kopukluklar bulunduğunu göstermektedir. Özellikle ulaşım araçları, tesis içi düzenlemeler ve mekânsal erişim noktalarında ciddi altyapı eksiklikleri tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, rehberlik hizmetlerinin farklı engel gruplarının ihtiyaçlarına göre uyarlanmadığı; işaret dili, betimleyici anlatım ve iletişim desteği gibi kritik unsurların yetersiz kaldığı görülmüştür. Katılımcıların spor ve kültür odaklı yüksek seyahat motivasyonuna sahip olmalarına rağmen mevcut turizm arzının bu talebi karşılamada sınırlı kaldığı belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak bu araştırma, erişilebilir turizmin yalnızca mimari düzenlemelerden ibaret olmadığını; iletişimsel erişim, kapsayıcı rehberlik ve sosyal destek mekanizmalarının eş zamanlı olarak sağlanması gerektiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışma, turizm sektöründe bütüncül bir hizmet anlayışının geliştirilmesine yönelik sunduğu politika ve uygulama önerileriyle literatüre katkı sağlamayı hedeflemektedir.

This study aims to evaluate the current state of accessible tourism by examining the tourism experiences of individuals with different types of disabilities from a qualitative perspective. The research data were obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted with individuals with visual, hearing, and physical disabilities and were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. Within the scope of the study, physical, communicative, and organizational barriers encountered throughout tourism processes were systematically examined. The findings reveal significant significant gaps across multiple links of the accessibility chain. In particular, serious infrastructural deficiencies were identified in transportation systems, on-site facility arrangements, and spatial access points. Moreover, the results indicate that guiding services are not adequately adapted to the needs of different disability groups; critical components such as sign language interpretation, descriptive narration, and communication support remain insufficient. Despite participants demonstrating a high level of travel motivation, particularly in relation to sports- and culture-oriented activities, the current tourism supply was found to be limited in its capacity to meet this demand. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that accessible tourism cannot be reduced solely to architectural adaptations; rather, it requires the simultaneous provision of communicational accessibility, inclusive guiding services, and social support mechanisms. By offering policy- and practice-oriented recommendations aimed at fostering a holistic service approach within the tourism sector, the study seeks to contribute to the existing literature on accessible and inclusive tourism.
