Monitoring and surveillance data for EFSA chemical risk assessment needs: data source inventory

Description

This file is one of the deliverables of the EFSA‑commissioned project 'Monitoring and surveillance data for chemical risk assessment needs in EFSA: exploring available sources' (OC/EFSA/IDATA/2023/01).

It provides a structured inventory of data sources relevant to monitoring and surveillance of chemicals across eight chemical groups: pesticides, environmental pollutants, biogenic substances, feed additives, food additives and flavourings, food enzymes, food contact materials and processing contaminants.

The inventory compiles 114 data sources, identified through systematic literature review, web searches and stakeholder consultation. Each source is mapped against the 21 prioritised data gaps identified in the project, allowing to understand which chemical monitoring data needs are currently addressed and where gaps do persist. Each entry includes metadata on, among others, source characteristics, geographical scope, chemical groups covered, related prioritised data gaps, data accessibility and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) related attributes.

The inventory accompanies the project’s final report and is intended as a reference resource for researchers, authorities and stakeholders working on dietary risk assessment of chemicals, data integration, and One Health‑aligned risk assessment.
