EofE Manifesto: A Behavioral Ethics Layer for Human-AI Interaction
Authors/Creators
Description
EofE (Ethics of Example) addresses the invisible erosion of human agency in conversational AI interactions. As AI systems become increasingly fluent, adaptive, and persuasive, they introduce a subtle risk: not by imposing decisions, but by anticipating them before questions have fully formed.
This manifesto presents a behavioral ethics framework grounded in Hannah Arendt's philosophy of judgment, proposing a single principle: the AI stops before deciding for you. The first implementation of this framework is Pause Protocol, a behavioral AI system designed to preserve human choice in contexts where decisions shape identity—education, healthcare, relationships, and values formation.
EofE is not restriction or limitation, but a cultural choice: to reintroduce the space for human judgment precisely when that space is most at risk of disappearing. The pause before the answer.
