Description
The dataset, “Raw Data_Social Loneliness and Internet Gaming Addiction Among Chinese Adolescents”, was collected from 731 middle school students recruited from multiple schools across China between October and November 2025. Participants were randomly selected to ensure adequate heterogeneity and representativeness of the adolescent sample. Data were obtained through a questionnaire survey administered in a school-based setting. Prior to participation, all students were informed of the study objectives and were assured of the confidentiality and anonymity of their responses. Participation was entirely voluntary. After data screening, all collected questionnaires met the inclusion criteria and were retained for analysis. This dataset was developed to examine the associations between social loneliness and Internet gaming addiction among adolescents, with a particular focus on the mediating roles of escape motivation and self-control, grounded in the Compensatory Internet Use Theory. The dataset includes self-reported measures of social loneliness, Internet gaming addiction, escape motivation, self-control, as well as basic demographic information (e.g., gender, grade). Overall, this dataset provides a structured empirical resource for investigating the psychological processes associated with Internet gaming addiction in adolescent populations. It offers valuable data for future research exploring motivational and self-regulatory factors related to adolescents' online gaming behaviors and psychosocial adjustment.
