Ecological Homeostasis: A Framework Designed to Be Abandoned

Description

The Null Hypothesis
This section must be read first. If you skip it, you have not read the document.
THE ASSUMPTION THAT, IF WRONG, MAKES THIS ENTIRE FRAMEWORK A
WASTE OF TIME:
Existing Australian institutions—Fair Work, Services Australia, TAFE, the banking
sector, community organisations—have sufficient adaptive capacity to absorb
AI-driven workforce displacement through parameter adjustment rather than
structural replacement.
If this assumption is false—if these institutions' design assumptions are fundamentally
incompatible with the scale and pace of AI transformation—then the Ecological Homeostasis
Framework is not merely incomplete but actively harmful. It would direct attention and
resources toward institutional tinkering while structural transformation is required. It would
provide intellectual cover for inaction dressed as wisdom. It would waste the transition
window.
We do not know if this assumption is true. No one does. The framework exists to test it, not
to assert it.
The honest position is: we are betting that adjustment can work, while building in failure
detection that will tell us if we are wrong, and kill-switches that prevent the framework from
being used to paper over structural inadequacy.
⊘ KILL-SWITCH: If pilot programs demonstrate that existing institutional structures cannot
be adjusted to absorb displacement at required scale—defined as absorption rates below
50% of intake after 24 months of operation—the authors publicly withdraw this framework
and call for structural alternatives. Continued citation of this framework after such withdrawal
constitutes misuse.
