STUDY AND PROTECTION OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL MONUMENTS OF THE ORDUBAD DISTRICT

Authors/Creators

Description

The article is devoted to the study of the archaeological and architectural monuments of the Ordubad district, one of the most ancient and culturally rich regions of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The aim of the research is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current condition of these monuments, to examine their historical and cultural value, and to identify modern approaches to their protection and effective use. The study employs the comparative-historical method, field observations, analysis of archival materials, and data from previous research.

The obtained results indicate that the Ordubad district possesses a wide range of archaeological heritage, from early agricultural settlements to medieval urban architectural complexes. Despite the protective measures implemented by the state, some sites remain vulnerable to natural and anthropogenic factors. The significance of the research lies in the necessity to develop scientifically grounded recommendations for the conservation, restoration, and popularization of these monuments. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of cultural tourism and the preservation of the region’s historical and cultural identity.

At the same time, the study demonstrates that the participation and awareness-raising of local communities are of crucial importance for the sustainable protection of the monuments. In addition, the application of modern digital technologies—such as 3D mapping, photogrammetry, and electronic databases—enables more accurate documentation of the monuments and their integration into scholarly circulation.
