Description
The question this study addressed. This multicenter study in Yaoundé analyzes the indications, intraoperative findings, and 30-day outcomes of 42 patients undergoing early reintervention. It identifies the clinical profiles most at risk to optimize postoperative monitoring.
What the study adds to our knowledge. Mortality following reoperation is surprisingly low (2.4%), contrasting with a morbidity rate of 12%. Postoperative peritonitis, mainly due to residual abscesses, accounts for 64.3% of reinterventions. The study demonstrates that initial intestinal obstruction increases the risk of complications after reoperation eightfold (p = 0.01).
