THE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE COCA CORPUS IN MODERN LANGUAGE TEACHING AND IN ENHANCING VOCABULARY RICHNESS

Authors/Creators

Description

This article analyzes the theoretical foundations and practical applications of corpus linguistics in teaching modern English based on the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). In this article, based on the theories of famous scholars in linguistics: L.S. Vygotsky, J.R. Firth, N. Chomsky, it provides in-depth analytical considerations about the adjective-noun combinations formed on the basis of the corpus and their semantic compatibility, stylistic naturalness, and role in grammatical competence. Also, the difference between ordinary dictionaries and corpus analysis is compared based on real language materials.
