Description

Dataset contains data related to the ZIF-8 Functionalized with Eucalyptol and Thymol for Antibacterial
Applications. Dataset consists of pictures in tiff format, and spredsheets in csv format.

Methods (English)

For the synthesis of pristine ZIF-8, two separate solutions were prepared. In the first,
8.0 mmol of 2-MIM was dissolved in 50 mL of methanol and stirred at room temperature (RT).
In the second, 4 mmol of zinc nitrate hexahydrate was dissolved in 50 mL of methanol. The
zinc solution was slowly added to the ligand solution under continuous stirring. The mixture
was then stirred at RT for 24 h. After the synthesis was completed, the solid product was
separated by centrifugation at 6,800 rpm for 2.5 min. The material was then washed at least
three times with 10 mL of acetone, followed by centrifugation after each washing step. After
isolation, the wet powder was transferred to an oven and dried at 80 °C for 24 h. Once dry, the
samples were ground into a fine powder using an agate mortar and subsequently subjected to
further analyses.
Modified ZIF-8 samples were prepared by adding EUC or THY to the 2-MIM solution
prior to the synthesis. Three different amounts (1, 5, and 10 mmol) of each additive were
introduced into the reaction mixtures. Based on the initial quantities, the samples modified with
EUC were labeled as ZIF-8-E1, ZIF-8-E2 and ZIF-8-E3, which corresponds to 1, 5, and
10 mmol of EUC, respectively. Similarly, the THY-modified samples were designated as ZIF-
8-T1, ZIF-8-T2, and ZIF-8-T3, reflecting the same gradation in THY content. Pristine ZIF-8
was obtained as a white powder in 11.8% yield (based on Zn). The yields of the composite
samples were: ZIF-8-E1, 11.0%; ZIF-8-E2, 10.5%; ZIF-8-E3, 10.1%; ZIF-8-T1, 9.5%; ZIF-8-
T2, 9.3%; ZIF-8-T3, 8.0%.
