Description

This material is a working paper / preprint (course paper, not peer reviewed), part of the C.O. Series – Communication in Organizations (WP-01). It presents a retrospective case study on internal communication in a private organization from Cluj-Napoca (Transylvania, Romania), examined during a period of organizational stability and subsequently in the context of financial decline. The paper describes an empirically observed communication architecture, conventionally labeled the “Kopiernican Model” (as an organizational modus operandi), characterized by: (1) the use of “rich” channels (face-to-face interaction, micro-meetings) for rapid coordination and ambiguity reduction, (2) the use of written support (e-mail, minutes, documents) for traceability and accountability, and (3) an escalation protocol grounded in subsidiarity and exception-based control. The conceptual framing draws on established reference points in the literature regarding channel fit under ambiguity, communication climate, and organizational culture (Daft & Lengel, 1986; Gibb, 1961; Schein, 2010; Welch & Jackson, 2007; Verčič et al., 2012; Karanges et al., 2015).

The author’s distinct contribution consists in proposing and applying the heuristic framework “SYCACBAM Index” (System–Channels–Control–Architecture–Climate–Brand/identity–Alignment with mission) as a mnemonic and analytical instrument for mapping (“SYCACBAM map”), indexing, and interpreting communicational performance across components. Methodologically, the paper is interpretive and relies on participant observation and direct professional memory; it explicitly acknowledges limitations specific to retrospective research, including recall bias and potential nostalgia bias. Scores and percentage conversions are used heuristically (not statistically) and do not support generalizations; rather, they contribute to an argued reconstruction of an organizational mechanism that may be tested in future research through complementary designs (e.g., interviews, documentary triangulation, standardized communication/satisfaction instruments). WP-01 is complementary yet distinct from subsequent papers in the series that may further examine organizational culture and post-crisis dynamics.
