EMPLOYABILITY AND JOB PREPAREDNESS OF BSOA GRADUATES (2005–2023) FROM EXTERNAL CAMPUS OF A STATE UNIVERSITY IN NEGROS
Description
This tracer study examined the employment outcomes and workplace experiences of Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA) graduates of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) from Academic Year 2005 to 2023. Specifically, it assessed their employment status, job relevance to their degree, job preparedness, strengths and competencies, recognition received, and factors contributing to unemployment or underemployment. Data were gathered from 109 graduates through a structured survey and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that most graduates were able to secure employment within one to six months after graduation, primarily in marketing, sales, logistics, BPOs, and government agencies. The majority reported that their jobs were relevant to their field of study, reflecting the alignment of the BSOA curriculum with industry demands. Graduates rated themselves as well-prepared for their roles, while employers highlighted adaptability, communication, and problem-solving as their strongest competencies. However, technical and customer service skills have emerged as areas for further improvement. Limited job opportunities in local areas and a lack of relevant work experience were the most common reasons for unemployment or underemployment. Overall, the study concludes that NORSU’s BSOA program effectively prepares graduates for the workforce, though enhanced training in technical skills and stronger linkages with industry partners are recommended to further improve graduate employability.
