Planning and Development of Housing in Urban Fringe Area: Case of Bhopal (M.P.)
Description
The population of India is rapidly increasing, and along with various developmental projects, it is contributing to the country's economy. Due to better infrastructure and job opportunities, people are moving towards urban areas, causing urban areas to experience rapid population growth. This has led to a housing shortage, and people are moving towards the fringe areas of cities to find proper shelter. Bhopal, a city in India, has a population of 18 lakhs, and due to its fast growth towards the fringe areas, there is a need for proper planning and management. The study aims to collect relevant information on housing development in the fringe area through case studies and literature reviews. The government is also encouraging housing development to meet the housing needs of society. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has initiated various schemes, including PMAY, to solve the housing problem in the city. The mission aims to deliver housing for all by 2022 and develop the city in a more planned manner, providing basic services and amenities. This paper explores the possibility of providing affordable housing in peri-urban areas of Bhopal, Capital City.
