Abstract
We report two independent empirical observations connecting the number 27 and its divisor 9 to
fundamental structures in physics and biology. First, analysis of the 70 physical constants in
CODATA 2022 reveals that mantissas beginning with digit 9 occur at 2.50 times the rate
predicted by Benford's Law (11.4% observed vs. 4.6% expected, n=70). This enrichment of the
"completion tier" (digital root 9, where 27/9=3) appears in fundamental constants including
electron mass, Bohr magneton, and Faraday constant. Second, the genetic code exhibits exact
arithmetic relationships to 27: chromosome pairs (23) plus DNA bases (4) equals 27; amino
acids (20) plus 7 equals 27; and human mitochondrial DNA (16,569 bp) has digit sum 27. These
findings from authoritative, non-cherry-picked datasets suggest that 27 and 9 function as
organizational attractors across physical and biological domains.
Part I: First Digit Distribution in Physical Constants
1.1 Background: Benford's Law
Benford's Law predicts that in many naturally occurring datasets, the leading digit d appears with
probability P(d) = log10 (1 + 1/d). This yields an expected distribution where digit 1 appears ~30.1% of
the time, declining to digit 9 at ~4.6%. The law applies to data spanning multiple orders of magnitude,
including physical constants.
1.2 Data Source
We analyzed the CODATA 2022 Internationally Recommended Values of the Fundamental Physical
Constants, the authoritative international standard maintained by the Committee on Data for Science
and Technology (CODATA) under the International Science Council. The dataset comprises 70
constants including universal constants, electromagnetic constants, atomic and nuclear constants, and
physico-chemical constants. This is not a selected subset; it is the complete official list...
