Living in salt marshes: Sal the salicornia and her friends - A children's book

"Living in salt marshes: ‘Sal’ the Salicornia and her friends" is a book for children and anyone who wants to read a fun and educational story. The protagonist is Sal, a small plant of the Salicornia genus that lives in the coastal wetlands of the Mediterranean. The illustrated story explains the usefulness of these plant communities and why it is necessary to protect them. The book was supported by the MedWet Initiative and the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) and was published for the World Wetlands Day (2 February 2026). It is currently available in English, Italian and Spanish in eBook format, but we hope to translate it into other languages in the future. 

"Vivir en las marismas: «Sali», la salicornia y sus amigos" es un libro para niños y para cualquiera que quiera leer una historia divertida y educativa. La protagonista es Sal, una pequeña planta del género Salicornia que vive en los humedales costeros del Mediterráneo. La historia ilustrada explica la utilidad de estas comunidades vegetales y por qué es necesario protegerlas. El libro ha contado con el apoyo de la iniciativa MedWet y de la Agencia Francesa para la Biodiversidad (OFB) y se publicó en el Día Mundial de los Humedales (2 de febrero de 2026). Actualmente está disponible en ingles, italiano y español en formato eBook, pero esperamos traducirlo a otros idiomas en el futuro. 

“Vivere nelle paludi salmastre: “Sal” la salicornia e i suoi amici” è un libro per bambini e per chiunque abbia voglia di leggersi una storia divertente ed istruttiva. La protagonista è Sal, una piccola pianta del genere Salicornia che vive nelle aree umide costiere del Mediterraneo. Il racconto illustrato ci spiega l’utilità di queste comunità vegetali e perché è necessario proteggerle. Il libro è stato supportato da MedWet Initiative e l’Agenzia francese per la Biodiversità (OFB), ed è stato pubblicato in occasione della giornata mondiale delle zone umide (2 febbraio, 2026). Attualmente è disponibile nelle versione eBook nelle lingue inglese, italiano e spagnolo, ma speriamo di poterlo in futuro tradurre in altre lingue.
