LUMEN Deliverable 5.1: Initial Cloud Infrastructure Deployment Blueprint

This deliverable presents an outline and implementation plan for the cloud infrastructure for the LUMEN project (more about the nature of this deliverable in the introductory "Scope of the document" chapter). The document is divided into three main chapters with an additional fourth chapter, which briefly describes potential plans for the next stages of the project.

The first chapter (“Understanding cloud infrastructure”) provides a general overview of the cloud infrastructure concept. It introduces the most important ideas in this field, explaining why cloud architecture is a valuable model today, both in technological and business contexts.

The second chapter (“Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center (PCSS) Platform as a Service (PaaS)”) describes the key elements of the Platform as a Service (PaaS) model offered by PCSS for the LUMEN project. PCSS servers constitute the infrastructure backbone for all LUMEN project components. While the first chapter is based on general knowledge and universal cloud infrastructure principles, the second chapter presents previously unpublished knowledge, referencing internal PCSS structures.

The third chapter (“PCSS PaaS as an infrastructure practice in LUMEN”), conceived in this text as a description of the proof of concept, has a similar, unique character. The first component hosted by PCSS for LUMEN is the GoTriple platform. GoTriple is the technological heart of the entire project (it is the foundation for White Label Platform) and was naturally chosen as the first component to be migrated to the PCSS servers.

Chapter three (especially section 3.2) also outlines future plans in the context of infrastructure development in the LUMEN project. More information about the next steps and stages of development can be found in the dedicated chapter four.
