Description
Autistic savants are a subgroup of individuals on the autism spectrum who demonstrate exceptionally high abilities in specific domains, such as music, visual arts, mathematics, memory, and language. These abilities often emerge spontaneously without formal training and are frequently associated with atypical perceptual processes, including synesthesia.
This article aims to examine the characteristics, abilities, and limitations of autistic savants from an interdisciplinary perspective. By drawing on documented case studies, the paper argues that such extraordinary abilities do not arise without cost but rather reflect an uneven allocation of neural resources.
