Negation in Panará

This chapter presents a detailed account of the morphosyntax of negation in Panará (Jê family, Brazil). Panará displays a wide range of strategies to express negation, with a set of negative adverbs, a negative polarity item in the polysynthetic verbal morphology, an imperative negation marker, and a negative verb. These different strategies interweave to express negation across the grammar of Panará, be it the different moods or the various types of clauses and constituents.
