Description

Additional supporting information files for the manuscript “Dual isotope model reveals that most nitrogen atoms spin through multiple reduction and oxidation reactions prior to export from flooded sediments.” The files include R scripts (.R) encoding (1) the even-determined model solved with the matrix inversion approach and (2) the over-determined model solved with the non-negative linear least squares approach (Code_S1), as well as the input and output data for the even-determined and over-determined models including (1) the input data for each sediment core (one .csv file per core), (2) the solutions (n = 1000) generated by the even-determined model for each core (one .csv file per core), (3) the solutions (n = 100,000) generated by the over-determined model for each core (one .csv file per core), and (4) model output statistics, including the medians of the nonnegative and nonzero rate distributions generated by the even-determined and over-determined models and the fraction of rates forced to zero by the over-determined model (.csv files, Data_S1).

In the files, the following acronyms are used to describe treatments, sites, and sediment core duplicates: Low nitrate/high oxygen treatment as “C,” high nitrate/high oxygen treatment as “HN,” low nitrate/low oxygen treatment as “LO,” high nitrate/low oxygen treatment as “LOHN,” clay site as “CLY,” sand site as “SD,” and silt site as “SLT.” Core duplicates are designated by “A” or “B.” These acronyms are used to provide a unique identifier for each sediment core, wherein the treatment acronym is followed by the site acronym, and finally the duplicate letter (e.g., CCLYA, HNSDB). Please see the publication and ReadMe files for further details.
