Directory listing
Directory ./SB contains UCLALES-SB simulation outputs and directory ./SB/UCLALES-SALSA contains the source code of UCLALES-SALSA model used in these simulations. The code is also available from GitHub (https://github.com/UCLALES-SALSA/UCLALES-SALSA) under branch IceDevelOrg (commit ba5f769f03ed5a955cec9f8db2869ed76e8bd13f from May 22 16:24:00 2025 +0300).
Directory .SALSA contains UCLALES-SALSA simulation outputs and directory ./SALSA/UCLALES-SALSA contains the revised source code of UCLALES-SALSA model, where SALSA includes ice-ice collisional breakup (IIBR) and droplet shattering (DS). The code is also available from GitHub
(https://github.com/UCLALES-SALSA/UCLALES-SALSA) under branch IceDevelOrg (commit 1691142646485d9b3fc80e6876e8e0542db3a3cd from Dec 3 09:34:21 2025 +0200).
Directories ./test_* contain the simulation ouputs for the initial SIP test and the sensitivity tests.
Output netCDF files (*.nc) have the following naming convention:
ac_<microphysics>_inp<INP concentration>_rs<multiplier>.<output type>.nc
- Microphysics: l06 means SB (Seifert and Beheng, 2006) microphysics and l5 means SALSA microphysics.
- INP concentration: 1, 01, 001 and 0001 means concentrations of 1, 0.1, 0.01 and 0.001 #/g, respectively.
- Multiplier: Hallett-Mossop rime splinter (RS) production has been multiplied by factors 0 (no RS SIP), 1, 5 and 10.
- Output type: each simulation can have three different output files where ts means domain mean time series, ps means horizontally averaged profiles, and cs means column averages. Column averages from each processing unit have been merged with Fortran code UCLALES-SALSA/script/combine.f90. Note that column
averages (cs) are stored for the ac_l5_inp01_rs10 and ac_l06_inp01_rs10 simulations only. In addition to the netCDF files, each simulation has the default runtime output stream stored in the *.out files.
Each variable in a netCDF file contains a brief description in addition to unit.
Both SB and SALSA microphysics have their default NAMELISTs (NAMELIST_sb and NAMELIST_salsa), which have been modified for each run based on INP concentration and the RS multiplier.
sound_in contains the initial liquid water potential temperatures, total water mixing ratios and wind speeds. Directory UCLALES-SALSA/bin/datafiles contains the background atmospheric profiles for radiative transfer calculations.
The other files are run scripts (runles_sb and runles_salsa). These are valid for CSC’s Puhti supercomputer.
