Guide for the use of the carbon footprint calculator for the Uruguayan citrus sector
Authors/Creators
Description
The development of this tool is one of the outputs of the INIA-FPTA 386 project, “Assessment and improvement of the environmental sustainability of the Uruguayan citrus sector”, and responds to the sector’s interest in understanding and quantifying the contribution of citrus production to climate change, in line with Uruguay’s national commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience.
Through a collaborative effort between the Union of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters of Uruguay (UPEFRUY) and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), this calculator was developed to enable users to quantify carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂ eq.) emissions associated with citrus fruit production, based on a defined set of input data. The carbon footprint calculator is primarily intended for citrus-producing companies and has been designed as a user-friendly tool. Once the specifications described in this guide are understood, it can be used by different members of the organization, including administrative staff, field technicians, and management personnel.
