This book examines the Baminitiya famine, one of the most severe crises recorded
in early Sri Lankan history. Drawing on literary, historiographical, and cultural
sources, the study analyses the causes, social consequences, and historical memory
of the famine. The work contributes to Sri Lankan historical studies by reassessing
narrative traditions and situating the Baminitiya famine within broader South Asian
contexts of environmental and political instability.
