Environmental Difficulty Index for Endurance Running Performance
Authors/Creators
Description
This manuscript presents an Enviromental Difficulty Index (EDI), applicable to endurance running preformamce. This is a quantitative framework for adjusting running preformance based on ambient weather conditions. A review of existing literature was conducted to extract preformance penatlites per change of one unit of the applicable weather variable. The enviromental variables analyzed include air tempature, wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT), wind speed, and precipitation. These conditions were synthesized into a multiplicative adjustment model with distance dependent scaling, producing a unified model to define the effect of weather on endurance running preformance.
