ForestAcclimationReview_ExtractedData
Description
Dataset description
This dataset accompanies the manuscript "Conceptual ambiguity in forest acclimation studies: a critical review".
Data collection
A systematic literature search was conducted using Web of Science with the search terms "acclimation" AND "forest" in the title, covering publications from 1990 to 2024. Studies were included if they: (1) used measurable indicators to explicitly quantify or assess acclimation responses; (2) included field studies, controlled environment experiments, or observational data; (3) focused on trees or forest ecosystems; and (4) were published as original research articles or review papers. The final dataset includes 55 studies.
Variables
For each study, the following information was extracted:
- Publication year
- Geographic location
- Forest type (evergreen broadleaf, deciduous broadleaf, evergreen needleleaf, mixed)
- Scale of analysis (leaf, plant, ecosystem)
- Study design (manipulation, field-based)
- Acclimation quantification method (direct comparison, index, environmental gradient regression, temporal tracking)
- Environmental driver(s) studied (light, temperature, drought, nitrogen addition, other)
- Key findings
- Methodological strengths and limitations
