Native Stack Privacy (NSP): A Comprehensive Framework for Privacy Across All Layers
Authors/Creators
Description
We introduce Native Stack Privacy (NSP), a comprehensive framework for achieving
privacy guarantees across all layers of a decentralized application stack simultaneously.
Traditional privacy solutions address isolated concerns—network anonymity, encrypted
storage, or private computation—leaving significant gaps that undermine end-to-end
confidentiality. NSP eliminates these gaps by ensuring privacy is native to every layer
from the ground up: infrastructure, application logic, data storage, and user interaction,
with no trusted intermediaries. We formalize the principles of NSP, demonstrate its
feasibility on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), and present Pond as both the
research hub pioneering this framework and the first reference implementation (NSP
P1) proving its practical viability. Through concrete implementations including
ephemeral end-to-end encrypted messaging systems, we show that native stack privacy
enables a new class of truly private decentralized applications.
